Born in 1957 in Edmonton Alberta, Mary started singing and playing guitar and writing a first song at the age of ten. By the time she was 12 years old, her mom took her down to the Barricade Coffee House in Edmonton where she first sang her original songs.
After moving to Vancouver in the 1970s, Mary continued to play coffee houses and “open mic nights” at the Soft Rock Cafe, Kits House, and other popular venues in the Lower Mainland. She also started to record her own material in various Vancouver studios, aided by songwriter/guitarist Doug Mix. Together with Mix and vocalist Tasi Sharpe, Mary formed the original rock band “Breeze”, creating a unique sound with hard-hitting vocals and perfect harmonies.
In 1997, Mary released First Stone by Garnett Edwards. Garnett Edwards was the name given to Mary’s duo with her husband, Doug Edwards – the late, great musician of Skylark, Hometown Band and Chilliwack fame, and composer of the pop standard, “Wildflower”.
Proving that you’re never too old to pursue your dreams, Mary decided in 2019 that it was time to be creative again and
began work on a new album together with guitarist/producer Andreas Schuld. The music was released in 2020 and quickly gathered rave reviews.
White Lightning is Mary Garnett Edwards’ debut solo release. She is currently back in the studio, working on new material for an upcoming release in the fall of 2021.
